Recording History - Alteranate Acetate

2003 Auction Description

1967. A truly remarkable item, formerly in the hands of John himself! This 7" EMI 45rpm acetate plays the mono remix, take #7, of this Beatles classic. Particularly noticeable are the absence of some of the vocal overdubs in the beginning of the song. The (RM7) directly below the spindle hole refers to "remix mono take 7". The initials PMc to the right of the spindle hole refer to engineer Philip McDonald in whose hand the entire label is written. Take #7 was made on May 7, 1967, and cut onto this disc the following day, denoted on the label by 8/5/67 above spindle hole (note: British form lists day/month/year). John gave this acetate to the head gardener at his Kenwood Estate who held onto it until very recently. It is common knowledge that John and Cynthia occasionally gave gifts to those in their employ as well as hand me downs during those years at Kenwood. Your chance is now at hand to own a piece of Beatle music that was actually owned by a Beatle. A substantial hand me down, wouldn't you say? Roll up! Roll up! Disc exhibits visual blemishes and scuffs as well as some flaking of acetate from metal core along outer edges, but this does not affect playability.
