Last Flight is a 2CD set of the complete performance the final incarnation of Wings played at the Apollo Theatre in Glasgow, Scotland on December 17, 1979. These are the very tapes McCartney himself recorded for a possible live album of which only "Coming Up" has appeared. As a bonus we've also included the Wings' tracks from the Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea LP as well as a 28 page booklet of notes, facts and photos.
It was known in 1994 that a stereo soundboard recording existed for this concert when Yellow Dog's sister label Orange released Old Siam , Sir on their compilation title and Big Mac's Live Tracks. A more complete show, albeit from a couple of noisy tapes sources, appeared on their 1995 Glasgow '79 release which is now obsolete with the release of this exceptional release form Vigotone.
The Concert was professionally recorded and mixed for a future project , which never saw the light of day, as have many other McCartney projects, but with this Vigotone release , we have a stunning record of this show and would probably retain it's core status even if the show is eventually released as no doubt it will end up being sweetened. The only problem is that it is apparent hat some discs have mastering errors. I have heard three disc 1 so far but have yet to find a clean copy.
I have not had the opportunity to listen to the either the Misterclaudel release or any of the fakes , but if they have managed to get make a clean transfer without any errors and with their discs being factory I think that these should have their stated uplifted to Core. I will investigate an update a soon as possible.
Whilst Coming Up received commercial release , this was after parts were re-recorded and generally sweetened, these will also be required for the completest collector.
The "Concerts For The People Of Kampuchea" is a clean copy of the commercial which was never officially transferred to CD . There have been other transfers but this is the best to date.
Not surprisingly this title has been copied by a couple of other labels and their is a Vigotone Fake with amended art work and pressed CD's .
